We have 2 options to treat pigment changes in the skin. Our vascular laser coolglide nd:yag system treats telangiectasia, broken capillaries, spider veins of the face, cherry spots, rosacea, and some leg veins.
The laser absorbs the oxyhaemaglobin, the red pigment created by the vessels thus causing them to disappear leaving the skin clear.
The sensation can be likened to a flick with a rubber band to the face, it is more uncomfortable around the nose. The skin may feel warm but this is aided by a cool compress.
The skin in the treated area may appear red and slightly swollen. This usually lasts for 3 days. Occasionally there may be bruising and slight scabbing, but this is transient and can be covered. It is important for the treated area not to be exposed to direct sunlight in the week preceding the treatment.
Brown spots, sun spots, freckles, solar lentigo, poikiloderma of the neck and some pigmentation can be treated with the 'intelligent pulsed light' system, the Limelight. This operates at a variable wavelength that targets brown epidermal pigment and shallow diffuse red pigment as well as improving skin texture and uneven tone. It uses light energy to heat the pigment and blood leading to a fading of dark pigment and an evening out of skin tone.
